Bonsoy kombucha review
Here we will give a hands-on, taste-tested review of Bonsoy kombucha. We’ll look into the benefits, ingredients, nutrition and flavour of this unique kombucha.
For this review we have taste-tested the apple cinnamon version.
Bonsoy kombucha is available in some health food stores in Australia.
Bonsoy is an Australian company, however this kombucha is product of Vietnam.
Ingredients of Bonsoy kombucha
Bonsoy kombucha can largely be described as a ‘real ingredient’ kombucha. This means that the flavour of the kombucha comes from real ingredients like juice, concentrate or puree. This is in contrast to a lot of widely available kombuchas in Australia which largely rely on natural flavourings and sweeteners for taste (eg Remedy or Lo Bros).
Bonsoy kombucha uses apple juice and cinnamon powder for flavour, however it also includes some natural flavour.
The full ingredients are:
kombucha (filtered water, kombucha culture, black tea, green tea, cane sugar, carbonation) (89.15%)
apple juice (10%)
prebiotic (0.5%)
citric acid
natural flavour
cinnamon powder (0.05%)
malic acid
probiotics
In case you were wondering, the citric and malic acids are added for either tartness or pH regulation.
In summary, there’s nothing concerning in the ingredients.
Bonsoy kombucha has more calories than most other real-ingredient kombucha. It has 16 calories per 100ml, whereas Buchi kombucha has 13 calories and Good Brew kombucha has only 6.5 calories.

Postbiotics
In very simple terms, postbiotics are essentially beneficial things microorganisms produce during fermentation. These include healthy short-chain fatty acids which nourish our gut lining and may help reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
Prebiotics
This kombucha contains prebiotics which are fibres that will feed the good bacteria in your gut and help them multiply to create a healthy microbiome. However, it doesn’t state which prebiotic is included.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is also a strong antioxidant.
It has also been shown to lower blood sugar levels and may help protect against heart disease.
Flavour
The aroma is most strongly of cinnamon with some apple there also.
The taste is primarily of apple juice with cinnamon. This is all well and good, but there’s little typical kombucha taste coming through.
The mouthfeel is also quite full from the prebiotic fibre and apple juice.
The acidity is moderate and balances the sweetness well.
The carbonation is good with fine bubbles that don’t catch in the throat.
In summary, the flavour is nice and the cinnamon makes it unique. Just don’t expect a normal kombucha taste.
Cost of Bonsoy kombucha
